Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) said Thursday it signed a patent agreement with Japan-based Onkyo Corp. that will provide broad coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio for certain Onkyo tablets running the Android Platform. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Microsoft will receive royalties from Onkyo under the deal.

Advanced Battery Technologies, Inc. (ABAT), a maker of rechargeable polymer lithium-ion batteries, said Thursday that its board of directors approved a program that authorizes the company to repurchase up to $10 million of its common shares. The company said it intends to increase the per-share equity of the remaining shareholders through the program.

Defense contractor GenCorp Inc. (GY) on Thursday reported breakeven results for the second quarter, reflecting lower sales under the Orion program due to NASA funding constraints and lower deliveries under the Standard Missile-1 contract. In addition, the year-ago quarter’s results include an income tax benefit.
