Openwave Systems Inc. (OPWV), a maker of mediation and messaging software for mobile phones, said Wednesday it has filed complaints against Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Research In Motion Ltd. (RIMM, RIM.TO), in order to protect its intellectual property on how mobile devices connect to the Internet. The complaints specifically allege that Apple and RIM have repeatedly infringed upon five Openwave patents.

Shares of LTX-Credence Corp. (LTXC) are down 16 percent in the regular trading on Wednesday after the semiconductor testing equipment maker reported a 12 percent decline in profit for the fourth quarter on lower sales. Looking ahead to the first quarter of fiscal 2012, the company forecast an adjusted net loss and also forecast revenues that are sharply below analysts’ expectations.

Specialty retailer Genesco, Inc. (GCO) on Wednesday reported a loss for the second quarter that narrowed from last year, reflecting strong revenue growth and an increase in comparable store sales. Adjusted earnings per share from continuing operations beat analysts’ expectations. Looking ahead to fiscal year 2012, the company raised its outlook for earnings and comparable store sales.
